Auckland Castle SS was a defensively-armed British merchantship. On the 24th August 1918 when 5 miles from Farn Island, she was torpedoed without warning and sunk by German submarine UC-59 whilst on a voyage from Tyne to Moss with a cargo of coal. 12 lives lost including Master.
