Denmore

Type: Steamship
Date of loss: 20/03/1879
Depth (seabed): 53m
The Iron Steam Ship Denmore was carrying a cargo of bagged flour from Leith to Aberdeen when she struck the rock on the N.W. point of the May Island on the 20th March 1879. Her forehold was filling with water quickly; she attempted to reach either Leith or Granton but sank an hour after the accident. All hand reached her boats. Most of her wood work has now gone but engine boilers and deck machinery is still present with plates still stacked in the galley.
