HMS Pathfinder

Type: Light Cruiser (warship)
Date of loss: 05/09/1914
Depth (seabed): 64m
The HMS Pathfinder was the first warship to be sunk by a torpedo fired from a submarine. She was a 2940 gross ton Light cruiser. The torpedo, fired from U-21 hit her forward magazine sinking her in only 4 minutes (the bow section). She lost 259 of her crew with only 9 surviving. One of our best wrecks with a wealth of history attached. A very sad reminder of the brave men who served in the First World War.
