Venus a steel Norwegian steam ship was launched with a schooner rig. Venus struck a mine laid by the Submarine UC 50 and sank very quickly. 14 of the 16 man crew were lost; the 2 survivors were picked up by a local fishing boat and taken to Berwick. She now lies on an even keel and is relatively intact, with the damage being confined to her bows.
